Week 6 (3/3): The meaning behind our film name- "Lucid"
In short, we wanted the name of our film to encompass all ideas and motifs that we incorporate throughout our movie; specifically religion, horror, and discovery. My partner and I went back and forth discussing a name for a while, however Clare suggested a name for our film that really stood out: Lucid.
There are many different connotations surrounding the word Lucid in regards for our film. The direct meaning of the word Lucid is thinking clearly after a period of being dazed or confused. Throughout our film the main idea is that the antagonist believes that they are ridding the world of sin and making people realize the sins they've committed (by means of torture and murder). Our mystery antagonist believes that they are doing a good deed for god and for humanity, however they are contradicting the words of the bible (Thou shalt not murder). Our antagonist thinks that they are making humanity see the bad deeds they've done, hence making them 'Lucid'.
The word Lucid sounds similar to the Archangel Lucifer, also known as the devil. In Christianity, lucifer is an entity that lures humans into sinning. Therefore, we believe that incorporating this evil entity into our film is important, as it provides background to the storyline.
